Design and Analysis of a Novel Compliant Tensile Testing Module Based on Buckled Fixed-Guided Beam

The need to accurately measure the mechanical properties of freestanding thin films such as carbon nanotube reinforced nanocomposite and various buckypaper is increasingly urgent. This paper presents design control a novel compliant tensile testing module based on buckled fixed-guided beams aimed at measuring films. piezoelectric stack actuator that can provide high resolution for output displacement chosen actuate module. advantages are its compactness, no friction, wear, low cost good repeatability. performance further evaluated by established analytical model using elliptic integral approach nonlinear finite-element analysis (FEA). A metal prototype has been fabricated investigated through open-loop response experiments. Experimental results demonstrate effectiveness proposed ideas mechanism. holds great potential applications in thin-film materials well other materials.
